Gregor Reisch's Margarita philosophica (1503)

Beautiful woodcut illustration from Gregor Reisch's Margarita philosophica (1503), an encyclopedic textbook used in the sixteenth century. Here, the faculty for imagination, sensory perception (note the lines between the lips, eyes, ears and head), and, interestingly, language are located not in the heart, liver or soul -- but the brain.
